What Happens to Your Gold After You Post It?

Published 21 October 2026

Posting jewellery to someone you haven't met takes trust. Here's exactly what happens to your parcel at Mail Your Gold, step by step.

1. Your parcel is received and logged

Each parcel is recorded against your seller account when it arrives at our PO Box. Your items are kept separate from everyone else's from this point on.

2. Every item is tested

We test each piece with an XRF analyser. It reads the metal composition without cutting, scratching or using acid, so your items aren't damaged during testing. This confirms the true purity, even for unstamped or worn pieces.

3. Items are weighed

We weigh each item on a precision digital scale. Stones, springs, clasps and other non-gold parts don't count towards your offer, so we work out the net gold weight.

4. You get an itemised written offer

Your offer lists each item with its tested purity, net gold weight and price, using our published buying rates. You can review it in your own time.

5. You decide

If you accept, we pay you by bank transfer. If you decline, your items are returned. See our postage page for how returns work.

6. Where the gold goes

Accepted gold is sold on for recycling and refining. Recycled gold goes back into new jewellery and other uses, so less newly mined gold is needed.

Why we keep records

As a registered Victorian second-hand dealer, we verify sellers' identity and keep transaction records. Our registration details are on our dealer registration page.
