Selling & pricing
Do I have to accept your offer?
No. Posting jewellery for assessment is not a sale. You receive an itemised written offer and choose to accept or decline. Declined items are returned by tracked post at no charge.
How do you work out the offer?
We test each item's purity, weigh the gold-bearing portion (stones, springs and clasps excluded) and apply the rate per gram published on our Gold Prices page. Every item is listed separately in your offer.
Can I sell broken, single or mismatched pieces?
Yes. We buy on metal content, so broken chains, single earrings, dental gold, coins and scrap are all fine. See what we buy.
Do I need to know the carat or weight first?
No. Testing and weighing is our job. Use the estimator if you'd like a rough idea beforehand.
What if my piece is worth more as jewellery than as gold?
We'll tell you. Designer, antique and gem-set pieces can be worth more intact; we'd rather you had it valued than sold it to us for scrap.
Identification & paperwork
Why do you need my ID?
Victorian second-hand dealer law requires us to verify and record every seller's identity before buying. Upload it privately in your My Gold Account or enclose a copy in a sealed envelope. ID images are deleted within 90 days of your transaction closing. See the privacy policy.
How am I paid?
By bank transfer only, to an Australian account in your name. Add your bank details in your My Gold Account and on the sealed note in your parcel. We never pay cash and never pay a third party. You receive an itemised receipt by email.
How long does it take?
We aim to assess your parcel and email your offer on the day it arrives. Payment is sent once you accept and ID checks are complete; how soon it shows depends on your bank.
What is the 7-day hold?
The law requires registered dealers to keep purchased items unaltered for 7 days before refining or on-selling. It doesn't delay your payment.
Postage & tracking
How do I send my gold?
Start online to get your reference number (no printer needed). Pack your items in a padded bag or small box with a note showing your reference number, first and last name, driver's licence number and state, email, phone and bank details (account name, BSB, account number) in a sealed envelope, and post by Australia Post Registered or Express Post (signature on delivery) to PO Box 5165, Mordialloc VIC 3195. Prefer paper? Use the free seller guide and enclose the signed declaration instead. No kit is needed.
Who pays postage?
You pay the outward postage. If you accept our offer we reimburse the standard tracked postage you paid. If you decline, return postage is on us.
Is my parcel insured?
Tracking is not insurance. Australia Post offers optional Extra Cover at the counter; whether to add it is your choice. Once the parcel is signed for at our PO Box your items are held securely at our risk.
Can I track it?
Yes. Add your tracking number in your free My Gold Account (or email it to us) and we'll confirm the moment it arrives.
Offers, payments & returns
How do I know you're legitimate?
Check our Victorian second-hand dealer registration SHD-0018514 and ABN 89 955 776 983 on the public registers (details on our dealer registration page) and read our customer reviews.
Who do I talk to if something goes wrong?
Email enquiries@mailyourgold.com.au or call 0469 838 242. If you disagree with an assessment we re-test and send you the photos and readings before you decide.
