These terms set out how Mail Your Gold buys gold jewellery and precious-metal items sent to us by post. They are written in plain English. If anything here is unclear, email enquiries@mailyourgold.com.au before you post anything.

1. What we buy
We buy gold jewellery (9ct–24ct), broken or damaged gold, gold coins and scrap, dental gold, and silver, platinum and palladium items. We do not buy bullion bars unless agreed in writing beforehand. If you are unsure whether an item is suitable, ask first. Anything we cannot buy is returned to you under section 7.
2. Who can sell
You must be 18 or over, the legal owner of the items (or authorised by the owner to sell them), and able to provide acceptable photo identification. For inherited or third-party items we may ask for additional evidence of your right to sell. We cannot buy items we reasonably suspect are stolen, and the law requires us to report such items to Victoria Police.
3. Sending your items
You post your items to us yourself using Australia Post or another tracked carrier of your choice. Our self-send instructions and the free seller guide explain how to pack, declare and track a parcel. You are responsible for the parcel until it is signed for at our PO Box, including choosing a service with tracking and any extra cover you want. We recommend Australia Post Registered or Express Post with signature on delivery. We do not provide prepaid labels or insurance. If you accept our offer and the sale completes, we reimburse the standard tracked postage you paid to send the parcel (receipt required); optional extra cover, packaging and other add-ons are not reimbursed.
Log the tracking number in your My Gold Account (or email it to us) so we can watch for the parcel and tell you the moment it arrives.
4. Sending your items is not a sale
Posting items to us does not transfer ownership. Your items remain yours until you accept a written offer under section 6 and we pay you. We hold them securely for you in the meantime.
5. Assessment and your offer
Every parcel is opened and photographed on arrival. We test each item's purity and weigh the gold-bearing portion, excluding stones, springs, clasps and non-gold parts. You then receive an itemised written offer by email showing each item, its tested purity, its weight in grams, the rate per gram applied and the total. Prices shown on our website are indicative and change with the live gold market; the written offer is the binding figure.
Standard testing is non-destructive. Testing that could permanently mark or damage an item (filing, cutting, acid on a visible surface, assay sampling) is only done with your separate, express consent recorded on your seller declaration or in writing. If you withhold consent and we cannot verify an item, we return it.
6. Accepting or declining
Your offer is open for 7 days. You accept by replying to the offer email or through your My Gold Account. If you do not respond within 7 days we will remind you once; if we still hear nothing we return your items under section 7. There is never any obligation to accept.
7. Returns if you decline
If you decline the offer, or we cannot buy an item, we post it back to the address on your seller declaration by tracked, signature-on-delivery mail at no charge to you. We may need to complete identity verification before releasing items. Items are returned in the condition we received them, allowing for any testing you consented to.
8. Identity verification and legal holding period
Victorian law requires us to record your identity details before buying second-hand goods and to keep purchased items in the form received for 7 days before they are altered, melted or on-sold. We verify your identity against a current Australian driver licence, passport or proof-of-age card, supplied by secure upload in your My Gold Account or as a sealed copy with your signed declaration. We do not complete a purchase without it. How we handle your ID is explained in our Privacy Policy.
9. Payment
We pay by bank transfer only, to an Australian account in the verified seller's own name. We never pay cash, never pay to a third party's account, and never ask for online-banking passwords. We aim to send payment within one business day of your acceptance and completed identity checks; how quickly it shows in your account depends on your bank. You receive a tax-invoice-style receipt by email listing each item purchased.
10. Lost or damaged parcels
Parcels you send to us are your responsibility until signed for; claims for loss in transit are made with your carrier, which is why we recommend tracked and insured services. Parcels we return to you are tracked and signature-on-delivery; if a return parcel is lost in transit we will lodge and pursue the carrier claim and pass on the compensation received. Once items are signed for at our PO Box they are held securely at our own risk until paid for or returned.
11. Problems and complaints
If you believe an assessment is wrong, tell us before accepting and we will re-test the item and send you the photographs and readings so you can see exactly how the figure was reached. Complaints can be sent to enquiries@mailyourgold.com.au and we aim to respond within 2 business days. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law or the Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 1989 (Vic). Unresolved disputes may be referred to Consumer Affairs Victoria.
12. General
These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia. We may update them from time to time; the version published on this page when you post your items is the one that applies to that transaction. Information on this website is general in nature and is not financial advice.
