How to Pack and Post Gold Jewellery Safely

Australians post jewellery every day without incident. The trick is a tracked, signed-for service, discreet packaging, and a record of what you sent. Here is how to do it properly.

Before you pack

  1. Make a list and take photos. One photo of everything together and one per piece. Keep them with your postage receipt.
  2. Prepare your paperwork. If you started online, write a note with your reference number, first and last name, driver's licence number and state, email address, phone number and bank details for payment (account name, BSB and account number), in a sealed envelope. If you're using paper, sign the seller declaration from the free seller guide. Either goes in the parcel.
  3. Open your My Gold Account. Uploading ID photos and adding your bank details in your My Gold Account means no ID copies travel in the post and there is no delay if a note is hard to read.

Packing

  • Each piece in its own small zip bag or tissue wrap, as chains tangle and stones scratch.
  • Everything into a padded bag or small rigid box. Fill empty space so nothing rattles; a rattling parcel advertises its contents.
  • Paperwork inside, on top, sealed in its own envelope.
  • Tape all seams. Write only the address on the outside, never "gold", "jewellery" or "valuables", and no jeweller's or bank's return label.

Choosing the postal service

Use Australia Post Registered Post or Express Post with Signature on Delivery. Both are tracked and both deliver to our PO Box. Tracking is not insurance; Australia Post sells optional Extra Cover at the counter and whether to add it is your call. Keep the receipt: accept our offer and we reimburse the standard tracked postage.

After posting

Add your tracking number in your My Gold Account, or email it to us with your full name. We confirm the moment your parcel is signed for; from that point your items are held securely at our risk until they are paid for or returned.
